Are we all just one beauty product away from perfect skin? Yes—or at least this was the case for my wayward complexion, which was recently saved by a slim black tube of tinted moisturizer, and a stroke of luck. It happened like this: In late February, the apex of fashion month coincided with my research for a story about the best-selling makeup products of all time. Among the items on the list was Le Métier de Beauté’s tinted Peau Vierge Anti-Aging Complexe, which happened to arrive at my desk just as my face was really showing the side effects of a demanding workload.
There’s nothing like sleep deprivation, eating takeout food, and attempting to hydrate with caffeine to dull your complexion and make your undertones as multitonal as a Grateful Dead T-shirt. So, before heading out to a dinner one night, I rubbed on a wash of what seemed like a straightforward tinted moisturizer—but turned out to be so much more. For starters, it was complexion evening, but sheer enough to reveal my real skin underneath. And in addition to its hydrating properties, it had a slightly lustrous sheen and subtle gold flecks that disappeared on contact to provide, without overstatement, a radiant glow. Which is to say, when shade two promised “a touch of warmth,” it delivered.
When I came into the office the next morning, the first thing my colleague said was, “Your skin looks great.” (It should also be mentioned that she now keeps a tube in her own makeup arsenal, too.) And I’d soon learn that the formula’s inclusion of retinol and SPF 18 means that there are plenty of long-term smoothing and wrinkle-fighting benefits to be reaped from this instant fix, too. I don’t wear it every day, but when I need to fake the look of regular facials, a well-rounded diet, and eight hours of sleep, I know exactly what to reach for.
